  • Grand Prize – AI Innovation Challenge 2024 (COP29) Dr. Addison and her UWI Team won the Grand Prize at the AI Innovation Challenge 2024, hosted by the UNFCCC TEC and Enterprise Neurosystem during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Their project, “AI-driven Climate Resilience Platform for SIDS (AI4SIDS),” was chosen from 114 proposals across 62 countries for its innovative use of AI to enhance disaster response and climate resilience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).   • Best Oral Presentation Award – Climate Change (2023) Best Oral Presentation awarded to Dr. Letetia Addison and Prof. Patrick Hosein, at The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Research Festival for the presentation, “Comparison of Traditional Assessment and Machine Learning Models for Flood Risk Assessment in the Caribbean.” This work demonstrated innovative applications of machine learning to enhance flood risk assessments, contributing to climate resilience efforts in the Caribbean region.
  • 1st Place – GRD Climate Data Challenge 2022 First Place awarded to Dr. Letetia Addison and her team at the 6th Growth and Resilience Dialogue for developing an innovative AI-based prototype to predict flood risks using OECS climate data variables, such as temperature and precipitation. This solution, created by a multidisciplinary team from UWI Five Islands and St. Augustine Campuses, exemplifies the use of responsible AI to enhance climate resilience and informed decision-making in the OECS/ECCU region.
